Sleepless in Seattle Houseboat could be yours

For a mere $2.5 mil. {seattle pi}
"If you can afford a $625,000 down payment and secure some type of jumbo mortgage with a rate of 8 percent, your monthly costs would be about $13,800. This example presumes a 30-year loan term."
Oh, not including the $388/month homeowner's dues. No biggie!

Help Save this Awesome Manse!!!

People: this is indeed an emergency! Help save The Mount Estate and Gardens! This property is facing immediate foreclosure if they do not receive enough donations in time.

"Edith Wharton designed and built The Mount in 1902, based on the principles outlined in her influential book, The Decoration of Houses (1897), co-authored with architect Ogden Codman, Jr. This classical revival house represents the only full expression we have of Wharton's architectural interests. It is also one of the mere 5% of National Historic Landmarks dedicated to women.

The Mount is not just a pretty house. It represents a crowning achievement of a very creative woman, and is one of the few places to do so. Its importance in this light goes far beyond Berkshire County and even our county's shores.

Edith Wharton connected the Berkshires with the international community partly through her travels and her expertise in home and garden design. But she is, of course, best known for her great contribution to the art of literature. The Mount has continued in this tradition by hosting presentations from the contemporary literary community and through its marvelous encouragement of local student writers. Edith would have been very proud!"

oh my, it's rainbow jello

Simple - fantastic! {via do better blog}

"Roy Lynch, right, and Bob Davidson share a moment as their time at Sunset Bowl comes to an end Sunday. Lynch's memories there include proposing to his first wife. Davidson's father once managed the business: 'I grew up here'"

Time's Design 100

Today's "most influential" design, according to Time Magazine.
{People and Ideas}

"Great design is no longer reserved solely for
museum-worthy products"

For Nordpark Cable Railway, by Zaha Hadid: Innsbruck, Austria:
"The stations—double-curvature glass shells that seem to hover above concrete platforms—were conceived with particular care toward the specific topography and surroundings of each location. To achieve each one's unique appearance of a flowing ice formation frozen in place, Hadid studied glacial moraines and ice movements."

My version of the toadstool cupcakes. Decorator's sugar and inverted white chocolate chips. I think they turned out pretty cute.
