I made it! April Posts, every day!

And another Royal Wedding post - last one, promise! Some of my wise spiritual teachers hosted a viewing party last night, and they did it up proper (thanks Marla!).

Check out just round one of the royal snacks! Shortbreads, scones and cupcakes. We had fish and chips too and toasted William and Kate when they kissed on the balcony. *Cheers*
Debbe brought her own HAND-MADE custom tiaras for us to choose from - just like Kate was able to pick out her tiara from the Queen. Here I am (they gave me a veil - how sweet!) with my gals Megan and Kate.

I had a blast watching this thing. I didn't think I'd get so excited but seeing her walk down the aisle at Westminster Abbey with that music and that dress and all the drama - SWOON. Who doesn't love a real-life Disney fairytale? Ate. It. Up.

Hope you all enjoyed April's month of daily posts. I hope to stay committed to more frequent posting for the rest of '11. Now stay tuned for May's "take-away" goal...pip pip cherio!

Happy Royal Friday!!!

Let's be honest, I have a long to-do list but I'm thinking of nothing else today but this:
Haters gonna hate, and I know dudes don't get it but this is A MOMENT, Y'all!

I'm so excited to see Princess Grace lace sleeves and such a classy design by Sara Burton for Alexander McQueen. So Classic! Not to mention her sister's dress - it is also stunning! I tried not to peek at the dress before I go to a "Royal Wedding Viewing Party" tonight but I am only human.

Time to Get REGAL up in this Country

It's nearly TIME, Y'all! As someone who is planning a wedding this year, let's just say I'm VERY intrigued by this Royal Wedding. I can hardly wait to see what Kate will be wearing. I hope it's not boring! I remember hearing about Charles and Diana when I was a kid. I wonder if I'll be telling my daughters all about this wedding some day? This whole thing is super romantic and a fairytale! Although, probably more for everyone else than for Kate - I bet she is freaking out right now. I hope she has some good meds. Good luck Kate!!!

This is like how exciting the last prez inauguration was for other people...but for culture/romance/royalty whores like me! I mean...this blog is MansionMogul, after all :)

Crafts + Waffles = Crafts.

There are a bunch of these yucky old garages all over Seattle neighborhoods...if only everyone painted theirs like this! Bright and fun. {via pamgarrison}
Another quick craft (my favorite kind) that would save my books from folded corners! {via la casa}
TRUTH. {via supermarket sarah}

I am TELLING YOU: waffles are the next pie/cupcakes/bacon. "Waffles on a stick" {via squishies flickr}
Love this lampshade idea. You could also use wide ribbon or different kids of trim. {via the pleatedpoppy}
Ok now I'm on the hunt for a type drawer. This is like a scrapbook page but better because you can actually hang it and enjoy seeing it every day! {via ali edwards}
Happy Hump Day Y'all!

AOTD: Andy Goldsworthy

AMAZING.

"The materials used in Andy Goldsworthy's art often include brightly-coloured flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. Goldsworthy often uses only his bare hands, teeth, and found tools to prepare and arrange the materials."

I didn't realized it until researching further, but of course I've actually seen this one at the National Gallery of Art in DC:
This guy is a total pimp. He is apparently also considered the founder of "modern rock balancing". Remember the Boulevard Park rock sculpture sightings, my WWU peeps? They were no Goldsworthy's, but they were incredible in person!

And now I totes want to watch this documentary about him, "Rivers and Tides":

Annual Peeps!

It's that time of year again (I'm a little late with this though)! Did y'all get a chance to check out the Peeps Diorama Contest Gallery? {via WashPost}

I think my favorites are:
"Peep-Bunn-Tiki: The Secret of Easter Island"
"The Mupeep Show"
"Peep Hoarders"
I love a good diorama!

Tulips: You gotta want 'em

We took a 7 hour trip to Mt. Vernon yesterday in the gorgeous sunshine to visit the Tulip fields. Unfortunately, so did everyone else in the PNW. Oh well! We drove and extra few hours finding the back ways. We also had an awesome lunch at Skagit Valley Brewery - hollah.

Taking the obligatory Tulip Field photos:

Of course they were LOVELY. But we learned that we didn't need to stop at Roozengarde and wait in line to pay $5 while I worried that our new dog would perish in our hot car (dogs weren't allowed) because just a few blocks further you can just pull over and look at the tulip fields. Live and learn! It was still a beautiful day. Next time we go we'll be much more prepared :)

Arrrrrrrgh! This bedroom is off the Hook.

Um....a dad had this crazy amazing bedroom designed for his 6-year-old son. It's CRAZY cool. I mean, right?! How will this kid ever understand the magnitude of how special this room is compared to all other kids rooms?! {check it out here}

Perks of FunEmployment

Y'all want to know one of the best things about FunEmployment? Weekday lunch excursions! Yep, Pearl and I hit the road yesterday to go visit my sis in Bellingham. So fun! Of course we had to hit up one of WWU's best institutions: Casa Que Pasa.

So...it's changed hands since I was in college a million years ago, and it's got this really funky/cool bar now! I mean, maybe it was like that before, but I don't remember any skylights or wall art...just a divey bar in the back. This was a major upgrade!
Court making her standard "crazyface" when I try and take a picture of her...
Pretty funky, pretty cool.
Elaborate art near the bar. Also, I don't know if maybe I just didn't notice this in the before-time or what, but their menu has a lot more than just a potato burritos - it all looked really good!
All together now: "Potato Burrito"
Court knows exactly how to order it: with extra-crispy potatoes and extra red chile sauce. HELLLS YEAH. I've got leftovers of this baby waiting for me in the fridge right now. Jealous?

Grateful for an excuse to go on a drive to B'ham to visit my sis. She graduates this year - I can't believe how fast time goes by! All y'all have a fabulous weekend - here's hoping there's a potato burrito in your future - Cheers! :)

Ask MM: Headboard Ideas...

Yet another fabulous question from my friend, P. D. Rhizzle! I give you Part II of Ask MM:

Q: The man-friend and I have a bed w/o a headboard. Besides hanging pictures, what are some fun ideas for things that can spruce up the space where a headboard would typically live?

Excellent question! Well, these days the internet is flowing with creative DIY ways to "spruce up" your bed - let's have a look, shall we? How about a simple map? Add some soft paper lanterns and pretty pillows, and you're there.
{via designsponge}
Is there anything that a string of twinkle lights can't make prettier?
How about cootsey wootsey bunting? {via desiretoinspire}
Or a simple shelf that you can decorate to suit the season. {via robin}
How about found objects? Look for items that could become a cool headboard...
Polaroid collage!
Make your own headboard...ambitious, but cool nonetheless.
They sell faux-headboard wall stickers...
Find yourself a mantle and you are good to go.
The one other tip I have would be "fresh linens". Ok I know, you're all: SHUT UP, MARTHA. But it's true. Linens can be expensive but they really feel great when you have nice new ones every once in a while.

Readers: have any fabulous ideas for sprucing up your bedspace? What have you decorated with in your home?

Ask MansionMogul: of the non-video variety

Y'all...friend-of-the-blog Paula asked MansionMogul some fabulous questions lately! I thought it would be easier to show you my answers in pictures.

Q: How have you decided to populate the cute little built-in hutch in your dining room?

A: Excellent inquiry! Well I came up with a brilliant plan (imho). I've always wanted a cool "bar" in our dining room, but here was this hutch just sitting there beckoning to be put to good use. There was also a giant pile of law books after our move. Law books = not sexy. Unless - you put them in their natural habitat: shelves of classic dark stained wood. Put them alongside the fabulous Waterford Crystal that Keene got as a graduation gift, and voila!
Con Law feels at home with the Grey Goose.
Ask MansionMogul, Part II (Question re:Headboards) - coming tomorrow!
