Thanksgiving Appetizers
So for me, Thanksgiving is all about the stuffing. But since we had the privilege of being guests in Baltimore for Turkey Day, all we had to worry about were some fun appetizers. I present to you, stuffed cherry tomatoes and Gougeres ("gooj-air")! Gougeres are pretty much "dough balls" that puff up. They were a lot easier to make than you might think {cherry tomatoes and gougeres}

I went to New York...Part II
It's Sak's Fifth Avenue - all decorated with St. Patrick's Cathedral peeking out behind it.
Half of the tree at Rockefellar Center.
Ice rink at Rockefellar Center - they run the zamboni over it for like, an hour on the hour. Crazy.
The top of Grand Central Station, with the Chrystler Building saying hi.
Me n' Shannon, pre-day-o'-fun at their subway stop.
Kickin' it in Central Park.
More of Central Park.
A quick glance at Philly on the train home.

So I went to New York....Part I
And it was Fabulous! From DC you can be in NY in less than 3 1/2 hours by train - which I love - because you don't have to deal with airport shenanigans. Also I can walk to the train station :)
Here I am chillin' with Obama in Times Square. I'm really proud of my self-portrait abilities. I was here on a Friday at about 11 am, which was super because there weren't that many people there. I also spotted Whitney, one of the winners of Top Model. Supposedly she is "plus size" - yeah right!
I just stumbled on The Late Show, and asked some nice Europeans to take my picture. There are so many Europeans in New York!
Radio City - you can pay $20 to go to the observation deck, but that's ridiculous so I spend that 20 to go to the MOMA instead.
So here is Picasso's Guitar, just chillin' on the wall. Granted, it's very far up on the wall, but it's just there when you come around the conrer. There should be some kind of warning. It was pretty cool that it wasn't even behind glass or anything. I wonder who's job it is to dust it.
This is Pipilotti Rist's Pour Your Body Out installation, where you are invited to take off your shoes and "stretch" and watch the weird movie. I fell asleep for little bit in there. It was cool.

The Big Apple

I'm in NY today! Woo-hoo! I've never ever been before, and I know it's going to be awesome! I'm here to visit my super duper friend, Shannon - we've known each other since we were each one year old, when our moms took us to baby class. She moved out to New York about...oh...4 years ago? I'm not sure, but I do know I'm overdue for my first visit!
First stop: MOMA.
I'll for sure be taking pictures over the whole weekend so stay tuned for my NY pics post next week.
Everyone have a fab weekend!

AOTD: Ana Serrano
I'm totally inspired by the work of new young artist, Ana Serrano. After checking out her work and reading her interview on RuebenMiller, I'm convinced she has great things in store for us. It could also be my love of dioramas playing into it :)
"I like to look back and re-examine the things that seemed normal back then but now realize were a bit distorted."

Bus Tour Pt III
The final stretch of the bus tour through Georgetown, Embassy Row, and the Monuments.
The "abandoned Iraqi Embassy" as the tour guide pointed out. I guess it was abandoned over 10 years ago.
Crossing the bridge from Virginia back into Washington - you can see the Kennedy Center in the distance.
The Lincoln Memorial.
In Georgetown, this was the late Bobby Kennedy's house at one time.
Only 9 ft wide, this pink and purple house is the smallest house in Georgetown, and it last sold for $550,000.
"The Castle" right near all the museums on The Mall.
The Washington Monument.
One more Capital pic, last one, I promise!

Bus Tour Pt I
A few weeks ago I went on one of those Open-Top Bus Tours, and it was fabulous! Check out the first leg of the tour...
"The House Where Lincoln Died", FBI Building
Ford's Theater
The Capital again, only this time from the top of a bus!
Canadian Embassy: Supposedly the hottest ticket in town for New Year's Eve.
The Mayflower Hotel.
Crossing a bridge...
Welcome to Dupont! (the super nice neighborhood near Georgetown)
Yet another statue, and an old church downtown.

Some Potato Soup for y'allz
So I made Potato Soup this week, and it turned out really awesome. I totally improvised and used basically just what we had around. The base is mostly mashed potatoes + water + dairy (of some sort). Add your accoutrements as desired.Hey by the way, does anyone have a really good savory tomato soup recipe?
