I've been wondering how Roger Ebert is doing for a while now. Especially because I miss him on his show...they keep having lame guest critics on. Lame! Anyway, Couric reports that he's "returned to the movies". He can't talk now after the surgeries he's had for cancer of the salivary glad and the jaw. But he's still kickin' it, writing reviews and releasing a new book.

What I love is his attitude. He said that people had suggested he not attend, that paparazzi would take “unflattering pictures,” and that he’d attract the attention of the gossip tabloids. His answer? “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” (Wonder where he got that line?) “We spend too much time hiding illness.”

Mint Juleps

The Kentucky Derby made me think of Mint Juleps. They're hella classy! Even better though - a recipe with gin instead:

"Muddle twelve fresh mint leaves with two ounces of gin. Add a quarter of an ounce each of fresh squeezed lime juice, lemon juice and sugar syrup. Then strain the mixture into a glass of crushed ice, and garnish with a mint sprig"

It's very important that you garnish with a mint sprig.
